Will be a part of this on Monday, January 21! Come out to City Winery for a wonderful evening!
In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King's 90th Birthday, Daryl Nitz Entertainment presents
Let Freedom Ring, Chicago! A Musical Celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Dr. Martin Luther King heard music his entire life. From the music of Ethel Waters and Bessie Smith of his youth, to the Civil Rights anthem-filled rallies and marches of “Free At Last,” and “Lift Every Voice,” plus the many celebrity-led fundraisers of Sammy Davis, Jr, Harry Belafonte, Mahalia Jackson, Frank Sinatra, Dinah Washington, Nina Simone, and others; music was essential to Dr. King’s life. This two-act concert celebrates music that was not only Dr. King’s favorite songs, but often featured in his rallies, marches, and public-appearances, plus music inspired by the vision that Martin Luther King had for America. Join Lynne Jordan, Jeannie Tanner, Cynthia Clarey, Tecora Rogers, Isiah Mitchell, Frieda Lee, Sophie Grimm, LaShera Moore, Greta Pope, Margaret Murphy-Webb, and the Gorham United Methodist Church Inspirational Choir. Hosted by Daryl Nitz. Musical direction by Mark Burnell with Chuck Webb (bass) and Charles Heath (drums.)
A portion of the proceeds will also support the work of the Chicago Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights. Chicago Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights is Chicago’s home-grown, nonprofit civil rights legal organization. We are lawyers and advocates working to advance racial equity and economic opportunity for all.
Founded 50 years ago during the 1960s civil rights movement, our work today continues Dr. King’s fight to disrupt segregation and racial disparities in housing, education, voting, community safety, and community economic development across our city’s neighborhoods.
